St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" will host the XIII International Symposium "Intellectual Systems" (INTELS'2018) on October 22-24, 2018. The event, which is held every two years, is organized by ETU together with the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and Bauman Moscow State Technical University with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Russian Foundation for Basic Research supports symposium financially.

The honorary chair of the symposium is Konstantin Pupkov, Head of the Department of Cybernetics and Mechatronics of the Faculty of Engineering of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. The general chair is Askhat Diveev, Professor of the Department of Cybernetics and Mechatronics of Engineering Faculty of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. Vice сhairs are Viktor Sheludko, Rector of ETU "LETI"; Mikhail Kupriyanov, Acting Director of the Department of Education, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology of ETU "LETI"; Evgeny Nikulchev, Vice-Rector for Research of the Moscow Technological Institute.

The organizing committee of the symposium includes professors from leading universities and research centers of Russia, the USA, Canada, Germany, the Czech Republic, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam.

"Today, the country's leadership is giving priority to projects related to artificial intelligence. President Vladimir Putin said that who will be the leader in this field will own the world. The symposium "Intellectual systems - 2018" is devoted to the development of methods and theory of artificial intelligence, problems of their practical application in various fields - industrial, social, education, medicine and other. The event is of great interest to researchers and students, and it will bring together and become a platform for exchanging opinions, ideas and attracting young people to research in the field of intelligent systems."

Mikhail Kupriyanov, symposium vice chair, Acting Director of the Department of Education, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology of ETU "LETI"

Symposium plenary sessions will be held over two days. There will be two speeches on October 22. Professor Fernando Manuel Ferreira Lobo Pereira, Institute of Systems and Robotics, University of Porto (Portugal) will talk about advanced optimization-based approaches for the control synthesis for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles.  Ivan Zelinka, Professor of the Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), will speak on the topic “Evolutionary Algorithms in Modern Engineering Problems and Solutions”.

Four speeches will take place during the plenary session on October 23. Stanislav Vasilyev, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University, will make a presentation on the topic “Intelligent control of autonomous and anthropocentric onboard systems”. Askhat Diveev, Professor of the Department of Cybernetics and Mechatronics of Engineering Faculty of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, will present the results of a comparison of artificial neural networks and symbolic regression for synthesis of intelligent control systems. Dr. S.P. Shiva Prakash, Associate Professor of the Department of Informatics and Engineering of JSS Science and Technology University (India) will make a presentation on the topic "Methods and models in energy-aware routing for Wireless Networks." Nguyen Anh Tuan, CEO of Boston Global Forum, Director of The Michael Dukakis Institute for Leadership and Innovation (MDI), honorary member of the Harvard Business School Global Advisory Board, will present current trends in technology and standards in a video message to the symposium participants.

Symposium participants will present specific research results in the field of intelligent systems building for various purposes and consider examples of their practical use.

The materials of INTELS'2018 will be publicized in the Procedures Computer Science journal, published by Elsevier and included in the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases.
