“To work out the best cooperation scenarios”: a meeting with representatives of Al-Mustaqbal University College took place at ETU "LETI"
In the summer of 2019, students and faculty of Al-Mustaqbal University College (Iraq) visited ETU “LETI” for the second time to develop cooperation in the form of student exchanges joint research projects and programs.
On July 5, 2019, an official meeting took place at St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" between representatives of Al-Mustaqbal University College (Iraq) - Dr. Hamza Mohammed Ridha Al-Khafaji, Deputy Dean of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Azher M. Abed, Deputy Dean of the Department of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Engineering, and Mr. Abdulredha Shakira Maji, Head of the Institute of Engineering, and the leadership of the international services of ETU “LETI” represented by Anastasia Minina, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Renat Yalyshev, Head of the International Student Office, Maria Kiseleva, Head of the International Academic Mobility Department, and Alexandra Kilina, Head of the Preparatory Department for International Students.
The purpose of the meeting was to develop cooperation in the form of student exchanges and joint research projects and programs.
“We are very glad to see you at our university for the second time and would like to further develop our cooperation in various fields of activity. In addition to summer schools, your students can come to ETU "LETI" for winter schools, English-taught Master's programs, internships, and continuing education programs. We are interested in joint research and development. We invite you to participate in our scientific conferences and publication of your papers.”
“We need to work out the best cooperation scenarios. Our college has entered the world rankings, which is of great importance. We have already successfully tested and now we will annually send students to summer schools, but we must go further. Our main task is to increase the number of scientific publications. Perhaps we could send researchers or carry out joint developments.”
This year, 4 professors and 7 students of Al-Mustaqbal University College under the leadership of Dr. Hamza Mohammed Ridha Al-Khafaji became participants in English-taught vocational summer schools in areas that are of particular interest to Iraqi partners - Industrial Software Engineering for Robotics and Internet of Things, Renewable Energy, and Biomedical Engineering. By tradition, guests from Iraq were able to combine the acquisition of knowledge with a rich cultural program as part of the summer schools. Representatives of Al-Mustaqbal University successfully passed summer schools and received graduate certificates upon graduation, and one of the professors, Hussein Ali Hamid Alabdli, was awarded a certificate with honors.
University representatives have planned an increase in the number of participants in professional summer schools at ETU "LETI" for the 2019/20 academic year, as well as the development of academic mobility and joint research in the field of biomedical engineering and other fields.
At the end of the meeting, representatives of universities exchanged souvenirs, and Anastasia Minina invited representatives of Al-Mustakbal University College to Partner Day at ETU "LETI," which will take place on September 20, 2019. The Iraqi side noted that ETU "LETI" has become their gold partner. “We are very pleased with this meeting. We would like to express our gratitude to you and especially note to Alexandra Kilina and her team for prompt assistance in resolving all the issues that arose during the registration of students for summer schools! You have a wonderful international team!” Dr. Hamza Mohammed Ridha Al-Khafaji expressed gratitude.
The visit of 13 representatives of Al-Mustakbal University College (Iraq) took place within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" and the Iraqi university. The document was signed on July 10, 2018 and enshrined the intentions of the parties to develop cooperation in the educational and research fields. It became the starting point for a new direction in the export of educational services at the Electrotechnical University.
