January 12 to January 23 an online Winter School “Introduction to AI Based on Autopilots” for the students of Southwest University of Science and Technology (Mianyang, China) took place at ETU “LETI”.

At the Opening Ceremony the participants were greeted by the Head of the International Students Office of ETU “LETI” Renat A. Yalyshev.

“We have a rather great experience in cooperation with China. We have had a long partnership with Chinese universities, we frequently organize joint programs, and at this moment 300 hundred Chinese students are studying at our university. We hope that this new experience with SWUST will develop into long-term friendship and help us find different points of collaboration in science and education”.

Throughout the course of the Winter School, ETU “LETI” teachers held seven classes on machine learning and robot programming for the students of SWUST. The course was developed by the teachers of the Department of Software Engineering and Computer Applications of ETU “LETI” under the supervision of the Department’s Associate Professor Anton Y. Filatov. The program included lectures in which the teachers explained new topics to the students and practices that required students to complete tasks on said topics on their own.

“The Winter School exceeded my expectations in every aspect. The organization was seamless, and the atmosphere was congenial and fostered learning. The lecturers were knowledgeable, engaging, and eager to share their expertise. The classes were interactive, which provided a deeper understanding of the subject matter. I was particularly impressed with the hands-on approach, which provided practical experience and allowed us to apply our learning in real-world scenarios”.

At the end of the course the participants were given the certificates of achievement.

The Winter School “Introduction to AI Based on Autopilots” is a joint project of ETU “LETI” and Southwest University of Science and Technology (SWUST). It was preceded by a prolong process of establishing the relationship between two universities. The first Seasonal School for the students of SWUST took place in 2022 and was dedicated to ecology. In the summer of 2023 ETU “LETI” delegates attended the 2nd International Conference on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Control which was held in Mianyang by SWUST. During the conference, the representatives of the universities discussed the development trends of advanced manufacturing and student training plans concerning this field. The representatives also held talks on the partnership between ETU “LETI” and SWUST and signed a Memorandum of Understanding in which both parties expressed their intentions to develop cooperation in the sphere of scientific research, studying programs for faculty members, research experience exchange and exchange of students. In the autumn of the same year the International Services of ETU “LETI” received the SWUST delegation in Saint-Petersburg.
