ETU "LETI" Will Hold an Online Course on Coherent Optics

From November 9 to December 14, Vivi Tornari (Greece), a postdoctoral fellow at IESL-FORTH, will conduct an online course on Optical Coherent Interferometry in Cultural Heritage Applications.

Participants of webinars will be able to learn the physical fundamentals of the nature of light and laser principle of operation and properties, to study the fundamental phenomena of coherent optics. Students will learn how to use these phenomena in optical measurement techniques. The lecturer will pay special attention to holography as the ultimate visual performance of interrelated phenomena and holographic interferometry as the ultimate measurement technique of highest density content.

Certain webinars will focus on nondestructive testing methods, such as laser vibrometry or thermography. Vivi Tornari will talk about the application of these methods in Cultural Heritage. The final part will include a discussion on challenges and perspective technologies in this field.

Vivi Tornari, a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, has created the Applied Holography Metrology with which she claimed an active role in shaping new diagnostic technologies in investigation and control procedures in the documentation of movable and immovable cultural heritage objects with laser techniques. She authored and coordinated major European scientific projects.
