From 3 to 29 July, 5 students of LETI took part in summer school at the Beijing University of Technology.

School participants were Alexey Kuznetsov, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering; Maria Gaidey, a 3rd-year student of the Faculty of Electronics; Stepan Pilipchenko, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology; Polina Manakhova, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering; and Ekaterina Kazanina, a 2023 graduate of the Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering.

The students could choose one of three study programs: "Future Decarbonizing Technology and Green Energy," "Hands-on Learning for Emerging Technologies in Electronics Engineering," and "Chinese Language and Multicultural Practice," In addition to the main courses, students studied the basics of Chinese language and culture in each of the programs.

Studying in the Future Decarbonisation Technologies and Green Energy program, students attended lectures and worked on lab works in areas of Green Energy Research, Autonomous Vehicles, and Decarbonizing Technology.

"I really liked the way the schedule was organized: we had free time to meet local students, see the sights on our own and immerse ourselves in student life. The teachers were interesting, all of them have had experience studying abroad, so everyone speaks fluent English. Both students and teachers were very helpful and tried to get to know us better. I met so many wonderful people and visited so many interesting places. This trip was like a little life. Unexpectedly for myself, China is in my heart now. I want to go back there for a longer time. I will definitely never forget this trip".

Polina Manakhova, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering

Beijing University of Technology offered classes in the areas of Artificial Intelligence of Things, Wireless Communications & Microwave, and Smart Vehicles.

"I thought that there would be more learning and English, but I found myself in a parallel world, there is no other way to call it. This is my first trip abroad, and, of course, everything is different here. The lectures are really about engineering, there were interesting lab works about robots. Cultural tours were interesting, we enjoyed nature and beauty. There were visits to the enterprises of two machine manufacturers," said Ekaterina Kazanina, a 2023 graduate of the Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering.

Program Chinese Language and Multicultural Practice was designed for all those who are interested in Mandarin and the Chinese way of life. LETI students explored Chinese culture alongside students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

"It was very difficult, especially in the first few days: because of the foreign culture, the unusual food, the sweltering heat, and the language barrier. But at the same time, it was insanely interesting and educational. I not only learned a new language and culture and explored Beijing, but also made friends from different countries and had an awesome time overall. It was an unforgettable trip, and I'm so glad I did it!"

Stepan Pilipchenko, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology

An agreement on student exchange between LETI and the Beijing University of Technology was signed in 2009. Every year, students of the Chinese university become participants in summer schools of the Russian language, and LETI students take courses in Beijing. In 2019, LETI and the Beijing University of Technology signed a memorandum of understanding.

LETI students who want to get experience studying and living abroad and acquire skills in conducting research in the laboratories of international partner universities can apply to the International Academic Mobility Office of LETI (office 3309).
