“Annyeong Haseyo, Cheonan”: ETU "LETI" students underwent an internship at KOREATECH
A student and graduate of ETU "LETI" took part in the summer school on renewable energy of the Korea University of Technology and Education (KOREATECH).
From July 12 to August 8, Yegor Kostikov, a third-year student of the Faculty of Electronics, and Arthur Hovsepyan, a graduate of the Faculty of Information Measurement and Biotechnical Systems, underwent a scientific internship on the topic “Renewable Energy for Enhancing our Life Quality” at the Korea University of Technology and Education (KOREATECH) in Cheonan, South Korea. In addition to students from Russia, there were participants from Korea, Cambodia, China, Vietnam, Mexico, France, and Brazil.
During the internship, participants lived on the university campus in Cheonan. They had three days to adapt to unusual climatic conditions.
Classes at KOREATECH Labs began on July 15. The training was held in the format of workshops in English under the guidance of professors and the best graduate students of the host university. Curators who advised guests on issues of study, life, and national characteristics accompanied students.
During the four weeks, students got acquainted with various aspects of solar energy: technologies for the production of solar panels, methods for assembling their own solar panels, and modeling a mechanism moving from solar energy.
“I learned to work in SolidWorks and significantly improved my English. This month I learned more than in 11 years - and this is a big plus. I also improved my soldering skills and learned to explain to people from other countries how to solder.”
In addition to theoretical and practical classes, students studied national culture. At the Wine and Rice event, participants plunged into the world of Korean gastronomy: they prepared traditional dishes with ingredients extravagant for students from Russia, for example, insects, and made a drink based on rice on their own. In addition, trainees tried on Korean national costumes, learned the basics of ancient Korean spiritual training and several taekwondo techniques, visited the Cheonan Independence Museum, whose expositions are dedicated to the Korean people’s struggle with Japanese invaders, 123-story Lotte World Tower, the tallest building in Korea, and the famous Sea Mud Festival in Boryeong.
ETU "LETI" students have many opportunities for academic mobility. According to Yegor Kostikov, is not difficult to take part in an internship abroad: you need to be active and interested in the field. One can find academic mobility programs on the official website of ETU "LETI."
The cooperation between ETU “LETI” and South Korea began in 1991 when a partnership agreement was concluded with the South Korean Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). In December 2015, ETU "LETI" and Korea University of Technology and Education signed a memorandum of understanding. The aim of the winter and summer school program on the basis of the Korean University of Technology and Education is to familiarize Russian students with Korean culture, history, and language.
