An ETU course in English – first on the online learning platform Coursera
A course in English titled “Development of mobile health monitoring systems” was added to the online learning platform Coursera by the Biotechnical Systems and Technologies Department of Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”.

The Center for New Educational Technologies and Distance Learning at St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" announced the introduction of the first ETU course in English to Coursera, one of the major world digital learning platforms.
The course entitled “Development of Mobile Health Monitoring Systems” was introduced by the Biotechnical Systems and Technologies Department of ETU “LETI” and St. Petersburg State University and is aimed at providing the learners with the ability to apply knowledge from various fields of science: electronics, data science and mathematics when developing hardware and software components of medical devices.
“Students will design prototype systems for registering and processing biomedical signals on the Arduino platform with the use of the MATLAB software environment. Learners will be able to understand main algorithms used to design medical devices via an example of a simple device.”
The learners will get acquainted with the hardware component of modern monitoring systems, learn about biomedical signal processing, implement the protocol for transferring data from a patient’s wearable device to a computer, get to know basic methods of biomedical signal preprocessing for further analysis, and methods for analyzing ECG signals, as well as algorithms of QRS detection, apply machine learning algorithms.
“The course is intended for a wide audience of students from all over the world, for people who want to expand their knowledge in the field of biomedical engineering. I hope that learners will engage in great discussions at the Coursera forum”.
The online course consists of 5 modules. The lessons are taught by Evgenii A. Pustozerov and Aleksei A. Anisimov, Associate Professors of the Biotechnical Systems and Technologies Department of ETU “LETI” and Yuliya A. Zhivolupova, Assistant Professor of the department.
The lectures are free for all. The course program includes five programming problems. To receive the certificate, one has to do all the tests and pay a fee. To complete all the tests without effort and in time, one has to possess basic knowledge of electronics, data science, mathematics and signal processing.
