Dmitry Kholodnyak

Vice-Rector, Director of the Project Office for University Development Programs

D.Sc., Professor, Deputy Head of the Department of Microelectronics & Radio Engineering

Dmitry Kholodnyak received the Diploma of Radio Engineer (1996), Ph.D. Degree in Antennas and Microwave Devices (2012) and D.Sc. Degree in Engineering (2016), all from Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI". He has taught at ETU "LETI" since 2002. Currently, he is a Professor, Deputy Head of the Department of Microelectronics & Radio Engineering. During 2009-2019, he also served as the Director of the International Projects Office of the university. Since 2020, he has been a Vice-Rector and the Director of the Project Office for University Development Programs.

The research interests of Dr. Kholodnyak are focused on microwave applications of metamaterials, high-temperature superconductors, low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) technology, and non-Foster circuits realizing negative inductances and capacitances to design of advanced microwave devices with improved performance and enhanced functionality such as filters, duplexers, directional couplers, power dividers, phase shifters, antennas, etc. He gained over 25-year experience in design and investigation of microwave devices for various applications.

Dmitry Kholodnyak is a recipient of the 2003 State Prize of the Russian Federation awarded to young scientists for outstanding works in science and technology (the Prize was awarded for investigation and design of planar microwave devices based on high-temperature superconductors). As an Invited Professor, Dr. Kholodnyak was with the Research Institute of Electrical Communication (RIEC), Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan (2018). He also delivered invited lectures in China, France, Germany, India, and the Republic of Korea.

Dr. Kholodnyak is a member of the Editorial and Review Boards of several international scientific journals. He serves as a Technical Programme Committee member for some major international conferences on antennas and microwave technology. Dr. Kholodnyak authored over 200 publications including 5 monographs and book chapters, 7 tutorial textbooks, 39 refereed journal papers, over 130 international conference papers, and 16 patents.

Dr. Kholodnyak is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is the Chair or the MTT-7 Microwave Superconductivity and Quantum Technologies Committee and the Vice-Chair of the IEEE Russia North West Section. He is also a member of the European Microwave Association (EuMA) and the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), Japan.
