The Department of Theoretical Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering is the oldest electrical engineering department in Russia (established in 1891). The Department of Theoretical Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering is a general education department that provides basic training in theoretical electrical engineering to bachelors of the to 2nd and partially 3rd year bachelor’s students (Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science and Technology) full-time, evening and correspondence courses in all technical areas and specialties at ETU.
The goal of the department lecturers is to provide students with fundamental knowledge in theoretical electrical engineering. It is the basis for their subsequent successful training in senior years, as well as high mobility of specialists in their professional field. The combination of traditional teaching methods with new forms based on the use of computer and information technology makes it possible to provide high-quality training for future specialists.
The department participates in the joint educational program for bachelors of the Xuzhou Institute of Technology (China) and ETU "LETI" in the areas of "Automation and Control", "Mechatronics" as well as in two Master’s level programs in English namely: "Automation and Mechatronics" and "Computer Science and Knowledge Discovery."
Within the framework of the department, the Multiple-Departmental Educational Laboratory Complex was established, including the Center for Computer Technologies and four laboratories:
- classical laboratory with real devices and electrical circuits,
- bench laboratory with digital processing of electrical circuit signals,
- laboratory for modeling electronic devices based on the information and measuring complex ELVICE,
- laboratory on the theory of the electromagnetic field with unique works for each group of students.
Lecturers of the Department of Theoretical Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering published topical and demanded educational literature on theoretical electrical engineering for technical universities of Russia and authored educational publications, the combination of which is unique in its completeness in Russia. The publications set out modern methods of computation, analysis, modeling, synthesis, and diagnostics in theoretical electrical engineering and their use.
Lecturers of the department annually organize university and regional student competitions, prepare student teams to participate in the open Moscow competitions and in the international competition in theoretical fundamentals of electrical engineering. ETU "LETI" students are constantly winning these competitions. Successful performances at competitions confirm a high level of training in theoretical electrical engineering for ETU students.
Professors of the department manage several research areas, participate in several dissertation councils. They authored monographs, numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and abstracts of reports at scientific and technical conferences. The department trains post-graduate students who successfully defend their dissertations.
The Department of Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering trains post-graduate and doctoral students in the following specialties:
- 05.09.05 - Theoretical Electrical Engineering
- 05.13.18 - Mathematical Modeling, Numerical Methods, and Program Complexes
