Academic and Research Laboratory of Automated Maritime Systems

The laboratory is designed to provide students of the Department of Automatic Control Systems with innovative ‘Automation and Control’ courses and advanced training of specialists in the field of automation of maritime transport systems.

The laboratory is designed to provide students of the Department of Automatic Control Systems with innovative ‘Automation and Control’ courses and advanced training of specialists in the field of automation of maritime transport systems.

The laboratory is fitted with an automated marine unified power plant consisting of three diesel generators, an asynchronous propeller motor, and a device that reproduces the characteristics of the propeller, including the reverse characteristic. Automation of a marine unified power plant is based on programmable logic controllers.

The professor’s console is connected to 12 students’ consoles, which develop the power plant control programs and program the controllers. The professor is provided with the opportunity to form the necessary input, as well as a formalized assessment of the student’s actions.

All local technological controllers provide decentralized control of the corresponding objects with the reception of command and the reproduction of response signals using a communication network that integrates control objects into a common system.

The laboratory is also equipped with 6 SEW-EURODRIVE educational and research stands for:

  • study of the device, control methods, commissioning, and adjustment of frequency converters;
  • study of static and dynamic characteristics, adjusting properties of AC electric drives with asynchronous and synchronous servomotors;
  • modeling of technological processes under various laws of change of load moments.

The stand equipment includes:

  • a unit consisting of asynchronous and valve motors connected through a coupling (motors have a power of 0.75 kW each and are equipped with speed sensors);
  • two SEW-EURODRIVE frequency converters of the Movidrive MDX61B type with built-in IPOS plus positioning and automatic cycle control systems for motor control;
  • a personal computer used for editing parameters, starting drives in manual mode, setting up closed-loop control systems and oscillography;
  • two converter control panels;
  • a block of switching equipment.
