The department was founded in 1982.
Leading experts of scientific organizations and research and production enterprises of St. Petersburg actively participate in the educational process of the department. This fact led to the establishment of the Department Branch of Research Automation in cooperation with RAS St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation and the Department Branch of Intellectual Information Technologies in cooperation with Inteltech Company, as well as specialists from the St. Petersburg branch of Radio Information Systems Concern.
